Brief update.

I just wanted to touch base with the readership and let them know that I suffered a heart attack two days ago at the age of 30. I had been a fairly heavy smoker with a crappy diet. I wasn’t overweight and had even lost 20 pounds in three weeks bringing me to 165 pounds. But I wanted to let everyone know that the two hospitals I visited (Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie and South Lake in Newmarket) were nothing but professional and speedy in dealing with my ailment. They have helped me tremendously and admittedly health care in Ontario is top notch – at least at these establishments.

More political posts soon as I can’t drive for 30 days and am off work for 4-6 weeks. But I felt it was important to share this with you folks.

As I sit in this hospital bed I think about the second chance at life I have been given. It feels good.

TT

    Been there – done that.

Take care, and take your meds, it gets better.

    Hang in there!

  2. NeilD

    Wishing you well.

  3. What a shock! So sorry to hear all this but glad you are getting better.

If you blog, try to stay calm. I find politics can really increase blood pressure at times.

    Nothing is worth your health.

  4. So sorry about your heart troubles. This is an opportunity to walk the road to recovery. Good luck to you. Cheers.

  6. I think there is a lesson here for us bloggers who get too worked up about things. And, there is no doubt about it, politics is very tense in Ontario and Canada at the moment.

I recently had an experience at a Niagara area hospital and I wish I could be as complimentary as you are about your experiences, but it was a disaster for far too many patients. People off ambulances backed up in emergency (because two other hospitals decided to go on by-pass when frankly, they didn’t have to). Two people died of cardiac arrest. Nurses stretched to the limit. That’s when I simply left to take my chances at home.

If I ever need to get to emergency again, and I am at an age where that is likely, I will take my chances by driving to Hamilton. And, my family doctor concurs with that option — which tells you something. Her exact words were: (Try to make it to Grimsby — a half hour drive. If you can go further, go to Hamilton General or McMaster — a 45 to 60 minute drive.)

Anyway, as others have suggested, catch up on favourite movies. Enjoy your friends. But, above all, take care of yourself.

    Get well soon

  12. No matter what age you are, you never really know what will happen in the next instant. No guarantees in life but it helps to take good care of oneself.
We all stray from the worn path at sometime in our lives but hey, that’s a natural phenomenon with being human in this world.
Warnings are better than the alternate. Take care, you have been given another chance at life – Everyone is not so fortunate as to get that opportunity.
    Get well and think positive.

There are so many factors with heart disease and a major one is stress. You have had a challenging time of late and take it from me, the smoking gun can be internalizing those things.

You are an engaging blogger, full of wit and wisdom so we need you to get back on your feet but not at the expense of your health. Do it for the pure pleasure, conversations and creative genius of so many of your contributors.

Get well soon, TT. We all are rooting for you!

God Bless, you must be in shock to be going through this at such a young age. Stay calm and don’t let anything get you stressed out as you recover and embrace your second chance. Nothing is more precious than your health.

  27. Thinking of you. Get well and back to blogging again. We are all pulling for you.

  28. James Neale

Wow… 20 lbs in three weeks? Sorry to hear of the heart attack, but you sure stressed your body losing that much weight in so short a time. Better get some advice before staying on that diet.
    Best wishes to better health.

  29. Praying for you! Get better.

  30. Thank you everyone for your kind words – it really means a lot to me. It does – I don’t know what I would do without you guys.
